Alexander Wang Spring 2010

In On the Runway on January 10, 2010 at 6:45 am

Alexander Wang, born and raised in San Francisco has come a long way in a short time as a fashion designer. The story of Alexander Wang is truly an overnight success. Just recently Mr. Wang collaborated with Gap that featured a very sporty lifestyle; So It doesn’t surprise me much that his spring collection would be very sporty. Wang’s spring 2010 collection featured very sporty looks that showed inspiration from football in the early 40’s. Cut off sweaters, knee high socks, letterman’s jackets, and handbags the shape and color of footballs. The only problem I have with this collection is that it wasn’t enough. With the celebrity crowd on front row and all the hype he’s gained in the past months the collection just wasn’t enough. He also stated in an interview that his customer wanted more investment pieces but from what I have seen a lot of the pieces were a little to forward to last more than two years, although the soundtrack was amazing. The beginning song can actually be heard at the Rickshaw Stops Blow Up, where the San Francisco trendy hipster’s party. Overall the collection was great just not enough detail to the theme.

Prada Spring 2010 Collection

In On the Runway on January 8, 2010 at 7:15 am

Once again Miuccia Prada has taken us into her world and I have to say it is stunning. Prada’s 2010 spring collection is truly made for the modern women. The theme of the collection was “business to beach”. The collection featured perfectly tailored nylon and satin jackets, pants, and etc. I felt that one of the best parts of the collection was that she took scissors and cut the edges of the garments. The raw edges combined with the 50’s silhouettes gave this collection a retro look that we love at The Daily Prep. Despite the fact that most critics believe it’s rare for Mrs. Prada to create garments that are wearable, this collection is packed with pieces built for a true intellectual women that’s not afraid to make people stop and stare. But the true question is what do you think? O yea and the prints are amazing.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Fall 2009 Men’s collection

In A sight to see., On the Runway on February 18, 2009 at 10:45 pm

In the latest Marc Jacob collection, Marc Jacob himself has done the impossible yet again. By clashing classic American style, a youthful retro look, and a little MJ innovation, this fall 09 awaits one of his most prized collections yet. From velvet blazers, striped dress pants, and bow ties to the new epidemic of spacey high top sneakers, its clear MJ loves taking those risky steps in the menswear department. I’m particularly impressed with his color contrasts of bright to neutral colors to bring out his true innovation and vision as a designer and stylist. For those having trouble putting the funds together to get a piece of Marc, go to your nearest Marc by Marc Jacobs store and check out some of his accessories and other novelties that are very affordable for the purpose. Marc works hard to make sure everyone from all walks of life can have a piece of his vision.

Since 2007 Stella McCartney’s line Adidas by Stella McCartney has been making women all over the world go crazy. In McCartney’s spring/summer collections she has once again done a beautiful job at putting innovative silhouettes, vibrant colors and breathable fabrics together to make sportswear sexy and functional. McCartney even managed to bring an Edwardian silhouette to a golf jacket. And not to forget McCartney’s line also has accessories that are absolutely amazing. Adidas by Stella McCartney is a great example of what the future has for sportswear.

For those who don’t know Boy, it’s a Ready-to-Wear line by Scott Sternberg who is also the designer for Band of Outsiders.  The whole concept of Boy is devoted to the ways and styles of Scotland. The spring collection for Boy is very sophisticated and playful at the same time which is a big change from its Fall and Winter lines. With great blazers off all styles, high waisted skirts, nicely tailored pants and a plaid blazer to die for Sternberg has really revamped boy from its tom Boy look. Last but not least Sternberg even casted on of our favorite American beauties to do the look book for his spring collection. KRISTEN DUNST!!!!

Gucci’s spring-summer 2009 womens and mens collection

In On the Runway on February 8, 2009 at 1:14 am

With spring and summer right around the corner Gucci has out done themselves with their new collection. What shocked me was hearing that Gucci designer Giannini was inspired by the new electric band MGMT. With tropical colors, floral prints and great tailoring Giannini has done a great job at bringing the fantasy alive that you get when you watch the “Time to Pretend” video by MGMT.

Ralph Lauren Spring 2009 Womens Collection

In On the Runway on December 9, 2008 at 8:13 pm

All the inspiration for Ralph Laurens spring 2009 women’s collection came fresh from Africa. Lauren used many khaki, linens and silks to pull off this safari look. Even though this is not something new coming from Ralph Lauren the silhouettes and fabrics make up for it.
